Isuzu D-MAX EV 2026: electric pickup truck with 1-ton payload and permanent 4WD system
The Isuzu D-MAX EV V-Cross 2026 is a fully electric pickup that hauls one ton, tows 7,716 pounds and runs permanent four-wheel drive — without a drop of fuel.

A Work Truck That Happens to Run on Electricity
The Isuzu D-MAX EV V-Cross 2026 wasn’t designed to chase range numbers or compete in the luxury EV space. Isuzu’s focus is narrower and more practical: deliver a zero-emission alternative for corporate fleets, utility operators and rural workers who depend on their truck every single day.
The truck made its global debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2025 in Birmingham, UK. First customer deliveries in Britain are scheduled for February 2026, with left-hand-drive European units arriving in Q3 2025.
In the European market, the D-MAX EV goes up against the Toyota Hilux BEV, the Maxus T90EV and the Ford Ranger PHEV. Isuzu’s pitch is specific: this is currently the only production electric pickup offering permanent 4WD, a 1-ton payload and 7,716 lb towing at the same time.
For American buyers, there’s no confirmed US launch yet. But fleet managers and work truck operators watching the commercial EV segment should pay attention — the specs set a benchmark that domestic rivals haven’t fully matched.
Exterior Built on Familiar Ground
The D-MAX EV V-Cross keeps the same body proportions as the diesel version — 207.9 inches long, 73.6 inches wide and 71.3 inches tall. Isuzu made a deliberate choice to preserve the traditional pickup silhouette rather than push a futuristic look that might alienate its core buyers.
Up front, the Bi-LED headlights carry an inverted “L” daytime running light signature with integrated turn signals. The grille is bold and brand-consistent, but gets blue accent detailing and partial aerodynamic blocking to help protect battery range at highway speeds. “EV” badges on the front fenders and tailgate are the clearest visual markers separating this from the diesel lineup.
Along the sides, the body lines carry straight over from the standard D-MAX. The 18-inch alloy wheels wear 265/60 R18 tires chosen for both off-road grip and ride comfort. Gun Metal trim on the wheel arches and mirror caps is exclusive to the V-Cross grade.
At the rear, vertical LED taillights maintain the D-MAX family identity. The absence of an exhaust tip is the most immediate visual signal that something is different under this truck. The ladder frame was reinforced to carry the 1,168 lb battery pack while keeping 8.3 inches of ground clearance and a water wading depth of up to 23.6 inches intact.
A Cab Designed for Operators, Not Showrooms
Step inside the V-Cross and the first thing that registers is premium leather upholstery with white contrast stitching across the seats, upper dash and door panels. Lower surfaces use hard plastics — a deliberate call for easy cleaning on working trucks.
The center stack holds a 9-inch infotainment screen in a Black Piano surround. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. A 7-inch digital instrument cluster keeps battery charge level, remaining range and motor power flow in constant view.
The driver’s seat offers 8-way power adjustment and heated cushions. Dual-zone automatic climate control handles independent temperatures for driver and passenger. An 8-speaker audio system benefits directly from the absence of engine noise — a quieter cabin makes a real difference here.
Front headroom is generous. Rear passengers may find knee room tight if the driver is over 5’11”. The physical button layout was kept intentional — gloved hands can operate every major function without touching a screen. That matters on a job site.
Dual Motors, Instant Torque and Terrain Control
Two electric motors in an e-Axle configuration produce 140 kW combined — roughly 190 hp — with 240 lb-ft of torque available from a dead stop. That figure gets the D-MAX EV from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 6.3 seconds, a clear step ahead of the diesel variant’s performance.
The 66.9 kWh NMC battery delivers an official range of 163 miles on the combined WLTP cycle, climbing to 224 miles in city-only driving. DC fast charging supports up to 50 kW, covering 20% to 80% in around 60 minutes. A Level 2 AC wallbox at 11 kW completes a full charge in 6 to 10 hours overnight.
Rough Terrain Mode electronically simulates a locking differential, routing power to whichever axle has the most grip. Regenerative braking offers 4 selectable levels via steering wheel paddles, letting the driver tune deceleration intensity and energy recovery on the fly.
The 50 kW DC ceiling is worth flagging. By 2026 standards, most EVs in this price bracket charge significantly faster. For fleets running back-to-back shifts without long midday breaks, that gap becomes a scheduling factor.

Does the D-MAX EV have real 4WD or just all-wheel drive? It runs full-time 4WD through independent front and rear e-Axle motors. Rough Terrain Mode adds electronic differential lock simulation for serious off-road use.
What is the real-world range of the D-MAX EV? Official WLTP combined range is 163 miles. City-only driving can stretch that to 224 miles. Off-road or sustained highway use will reduce both figures.
Is the D-MAX EV coming to the United States? Isuzu has not confirmed a US launch. The truck is currently entering the UK and European markets starting February 2026.
How long does it take to charge the D-MAX EV? On a 50 kW DC fast charger, 20% to 80% takes roughly 60 minutes. On an 11 kW Level 2 AC wallbox, a full charge runs 6 to 10 hours.
Can the D-MAX EV tow as much as the diesel version? Yes. Braked towing capacity is 7,716 lb — matching the diesel variant and keeping the truck fully competitive for trailer and equipment hauling.
Final Take
The D-MAX EV V-Cross 2026 does what Isuzu set out to do: build an electric truck that holds its ground as a working vehicle. A 1-ton payload, 7,716 lb towing and permanent 4WD in a single production EV is still a combination competitors haven’t fully answered.
The 163-mile combined range and 50 kW DC charging limit are the two numbers that require honest planning. Fixed daily routes, predictable mileage and access to overnight charging turn both of those into non-issues. Variable routes in areas without fast charger coverage are a different story.
At roughly $75,000 at current exchange rates, the D-MAX EV sits firmly in the premium work truck category. The total cost of ownership calculation — fuel savings, lower maintenance, potential fleet incentives — will determine whether that price makes sense for each buyer.
For utility crews, municipal fleets and contractors with structured routes, this truck addresses the right problems in the right order. It doesn’t ask you to change how you work. It just removes the diesel.
