2027 Volvo EX60 Enters U.S. Market With 400 Mile Range and New EV Platform
The new Volvo EX60 arrives as a key player in the U.S. electric SUV segment, bringing long range, fast charging and advanced safety aimed at American buyers looking for a premium alternative to Tesla and German rivals.

The 2027 Volvo EX60 represents one of the most important launches for the brand in the United States. Positioned in the highly competitive midsize electric SUV segment, the EX60 is designed to sit directly against the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3 and upcoming Mercedes GLC EQ, but with a clear emphasis on range confidence, charging access and safety innovation.
For U.S. consumers, the most relevant upgrade is range. Volvo targets up to 400 miles of EPA estimated driving range in the top configuration, a figure that places the EX60 among the longest range electric SUVs available in America. This matters for buyers who regularly drive on highways, commute long suburban distances or take extended road trips where charging stops must be predictable.
Built on Volvo’s new SPA3 electric architecture, the EX60 is not adapted from a gasoline platform. The battery is structurally integrated into the vehicle body, reducing weight while improving rigidity and crash protection. According to Volvo, this design improves energy efficiency by roughly 20 percent compared to its previous EV platforms, directly translating into longer real world range.

Powertrain options are tailored for different driving needs. The rear wheel drive version prioritizes efficiency and daily usability, while dual motor all wheel drive variants deliver stronger acceleration and improved traction for snow and cold weather regions common across the U.S. The top performance version produces up to 670 horsepower, making the EX60 the most powerful production Volvo ever built, with a zero to 60 mph time under four seconds.
Charging capability is another major advantage. The EX60 supports ultra fast DC charging, capable of adding roughly 170 miles of range in about ten minutes under ideal conditions. More importantly for American buyers, the EX60 uses the North American Charging Standard, allowing native access to Tesla Superchargers without adapters. This dramatically improves charging convenience compared to many competing EVs.

Inside, Volvo introduces the HuginCore infotainment system, displayed on a large curved center screen. Powered by high performance processors, the system integrates Google Maps, connected services and a conversational Google Gemini AI assistant. The focus is on natural interaction rather than complex menus, reducing driver distraction.
The cabin layout remains clean and functional. Flat floors improve passenger space, while cargo capacity supports family use and long trips. Volvo also increases the use of sustainable materials, reinforcing its environmental goals without sacrificing premium feel.
Safety remains central to the EX60’s identity. The SUV debuts a multi adaptive seatbelt, an industry first that adjusts restraint force in real time based on occupant size, seating position and crash conditions. Advanced driver assistance features include lane centering, adaptive cruise control and driver monitoring, all designed to improve continuously through over the air updates.
Production for the EX60 will take place in Sweden, which Volvo highlights as a quality and sustainability differentiator in a market increasingly dominated by Chinese built EVs. For U.S. buyers, this reinforces brand trust and manufacturing transparency.
Pricing is expected to start around $55,000, with well equipped all wheel drive versions near $60,000, positioning the EX60 competitively against premium rivals while offering stronger range and faster charging.
A Cross Country variant is confirmed for later production, adding slightly increased ride height, rugged styling and standard all wheel drive. It is aimed at buyers who want light off road capability and better winter performance rather than extreme trail use.
For the American market, the Volvo EX60 is not just another electric SUV. It is a strategic move that blends long range usability, charging access and Volvo’s long standing reputation for real world safety.
