2027 Volvo EC40 Facelift: What Changed Over the C40 Recharge

The 2027 Volvo EC40 gets an 11.2-inch display, Google Gemini assistant and up to 361 miles WLTP range in its mid-cycle refresh, but Volvo won’t sell the EC40/EX40 family in the US for 2028.

Volvo EC40 2027

The 2027 Volvo EC40 is the renamed C40 Recharge, the coupe version of Volvo’s compact electric SUV family. It just got a mid-cycle refresh with new front styling, Matrix LED headlights, an 11.2-inch center screen and new driver-assist hardware.

Volvo confirmed the EX40 and EC40 will be discontinued in the US for model year 2028. The 2027 update continues in Europe and other markets that follow European charging standards. If you shop in the US, its natural rivals are the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 for size, AWD performance and fast-charging capability.

Is the 2027 Volvo EC40 coming to the US?

No, Volvo is pulling the EX40/EC40 family from the US lineup after 2027. The brand is focusing its US EV push on the EX30 and EX90.

That matters for MSRP and EPA numbers. Volvo has not disclosed US pricing or EPA range for the 2027 EC40 facelift. European pricing starts around £44,860 in the UK and about €53,450 in France for the Long Range Single Motor trim.

Compared to US competitors, the EC40 sits between the Model Y Long Range AWD and Mustang Mach-E Premium in footprint. Cargo space is tighter than a square-back crossover because of the sloping roof.

What actually changes on the 2027 EC40?

The exterior gets a cleaner front fascia, new bumpers, updated LED tail lamps and new 18 to 20-inch wheel designs. Matrix LED headlights are more advanced for adaptive high beam.

Under the skin, the powertrain family stays the same. Volvo focused on aerodynamics, software efficiency and sensors rather than a bigger battery.

Safety hardware is new. It includes updated front and corner radars, a new front camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors and revised parking cameras. Features like Door Opening Alert, lane-change assist for Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera with 3D view are available by trim.

How much range and how fast does it charge?

Up to 361 miles WLTP on the most efficient trim, the P5 Long Range Single Motor RWD. Real-world US EPA range would be lower than WLTP.

The long-range 82 kWh pack supports peak DC charging at 205 kW. Volvo quotes 10-80% in about 28 minutes on a capable charger.

AC charging remains up to 11 kW three-phase. A full 0-100% charge on a 7-11 kW wallbox takes roughly 12-13 hours. CCS and Type 2 connectors are standard where European standards apply.

What trims and powertrains are offered?

Three powertrain logic options cover efficiency, balance and performance. All main trims use the 82 kWh pack, with a smaller 69-70 kWh option in some markets.

P5 Long Range Single Motor RWD makes about 248 hp. It does 0-62 mph in 7.3-7.9 seconds and offers the longest WLTP range. It is also the lightest in the range, which helps with tire wear and insurance cost.

P8 AWD Twin Motor makes about 402 hp. It hits 0-62 mph in 4.7-4.8 seconds and returns 323-342 miles WLTP. Curb weight is 4,630-4,850 lbs.

P8 Performance AWD makes about 436 hp and 494 lb-ft. It does 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and is limited to 112 mph. WLTP range is around 342 miles. Cargo is 14.1-17.6 cu-ft depending on measurement method, and towing is rated up to 3,968 lbs with braked trailer where homologated.

Inside the 2027 EC40: Does the 11.2-inch screen and Gemini matter?

Yes, because daily interaction gets faster. The new 11.2-inch vertical display runs a revised interface with fewer taps for climate and navigation.

Google Gemini built into Android Automotive replaces fixed voice commands with natural language. You can chain requests, adjust temperature, find a charger and get a summary without menu diving.

Materials include updated wireless charging, new upholstery options like Arianne Cardamom leather with wood trim, and a Black Edition package. Cabin lighting is more refined, but rear headroom suffers slightly from the coupe roofline for passengers over 6’1″.

Should you consider the EC40 if you shop for an electric coupe SUV?

The EC40 makes sense if you value coupe efficiency, Volvo safety tech and a native Google system with quick DC charging. The aero gain alone added miles without adding weight.

It makes less sense if you need maximum cargo height or the lowest entry price in the compact electric crossover segment. In the US, the Model Y and Ioniq 5 offer more EPA-rated range data and broader charging network coverage today.
